Pattern Overview
The Soft Embrace Hat is knit in the round from the bottom up with DK-weight merino wool. The design features cables.
The Long-tail cast-on is used for this hat.
First, you will cast on the required number of stitches and join knitting in the round. Next, you will knit a long tube until you reach your desired length. Then you will work the crown decreases. After that, you will thread a tapestry needle and draw the tail through the remaining stitches.

Size
One size
To fit head circumference: 54-56cm / 21.25-22″.
Finished height: approximately 21cm/ 8.25″.
Gauge
10x10cm (4x4in) = 22sts x 36rows in stockinette stitch after blocking on 3.5mm (US 04) needles.
Yarn
Drops Daisy in the color marzipan (uni color 02), 2 balls.
Needles
3mm (US 02), 40cm (16″) circular knitting needles for the brim.
3.5mm (US 04), 40cm (16″) circular knitting needles for the body.
3.5mm (US ), 80cm (32″) circular knitting needles or DPNs for the crown decreases.
Notions
Cable needle, stitch marker, tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors.
Abbreviations
3/3RC (3 over 3 Right Cross) – slip the next 3 stitches onto a cable needle and hold in back, knit 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches from the cable needle.
k – knit.
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together.
m1p – make 1 purlwise.
p – purl.
p2tog – purl 2 stitches together.
ssk – slip 1 stitch knitwise, slip the next stitch knitwise, return the 2 stitches back to the left needle, knit those 2 stitches together through the back loops.
st (s) – stitch (es).
* * – repeat the instructions in between the asterisks the number of times specified.

SOFT EMBRACE HAT KNITTING PATTERN
Brim
With 3mm (US 02) needles, cast on 112 sts using the Long-tail cast-on. Place a stitch marker and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Round 1: *p2, k2* to end.
Repeat round 1 until the brim measures 6cm/ 2.25″ from the cast-on edge.
Hat
Switch to 3.5mm (US 04) needles.
Set-up round: *p2, m1p, k6* to end (126 sts).
Rounds 1-5: *p3, k6* to end.
Round 6: *p3, k6, p3, 3/3RC* to end.
Rounds 7-11: *p3, k6* to end.
Round 12: *p3, 3/3RC, p3, k6* to end.
Repeat rounds 1-12 2 more times; the hat measures approximately 17cm/ 6.75″ from the cast-on edge.
Crown shaping
Change to longer or double-pointed needles when necessary.
Round 1: *p1, p2tog, k6* (112sts).
Rounds 2-4: *p2, k6* to end.
Round 5: *p2tog, k6* (98sts).
Round 6: *p1, k6, p1, 3/3RC* to end.
Round 7: *p1, k6* to end.
Round 8: *p1, ssk, k2, k2tog* (70sts).
Round 9: *p1, k4* to end.
Round 10: *p1, ssk, k2tog* to end (42sts).
Round 11: *p1, k2* to end.
Round 12: *p1, k2tog* to end (28sts).
Round 13: *p1, k1* to end.
Round 14: k2tog to end (14sts).
Finishing
Cut the yarn, leaving a 15cm (6″) long tail. Thread a tapestry needle and draw the tail through the remaining stitches, tighten. Weave in all loose ends.
Wet block the finished hat.
